If you're a small-business owner and a fan of cash back, Chase has two great offerings: the Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card and the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card.

Both cards offer cardholders a large sign-up bonus, generous intro APR on new purchases and the ability to rack up plenty of rewards on your everyday business spending. So how do you decide which is best?

The two Chase cash back business cards offer very different rewards structures, making it easy to align one or the other with your spending habits. While the Ink Business Unlimited card offers a flat rate of cash back on every purchase, the Ink Business Cash card offers a higher rate in particular categories.

Since both these cards offer comparable benefits for small business owners – such as free employee cards and a mobile wallet app to track receipts – deciding between them comes down to how you plan to use your card.

Rewards

The Ink Business Unlimited's same flat rate of cash back make it ideal for cardholders who prefer to use one card for all their purchases or who don't spend heavily in any one category.

For example, imagine you put $48,000 per year on your business card, with $6,720 of that spend in the bonus categories with the Ink Business Cash card (internet, cable and phone services, office supplies, gas and dining). Even when you consider the Business Cash card's higher rewards rate on select purchases, you can earn more in cash back from the flat rate on the Ink Business Unlimited. In fact, we estimate that a cardholder who spends this much earns an average of 1.47% cash back with the Business Cash card.

Estimated yearly rewards value: $6,720 bonus category spend + $41,280 general spend

Ink Business Unlimited Ink Business Cash
$48,000 spend x 1.5% cash back = $720 $48,000 spend x 1.47% average cash back = $706

Introductory APR

Outside of rewards, both Chase Ink Business cards provide a 0% introductory APR on new purchases for 12 months, perfect if you're planning to purchase a big-ticket item or are carrying some credit card debt already. For both cards, regular APR is 13.99% to 19.99% variable, so in this regard either card will serve you well.

Redeeming rewards

Although these Chase Ink Business cards are marketed as cash back cards, the cash back can be converted into Ultimate Rewards points and are transferrable to any other Chase Ultimate Rewards card.

Because the Ink Business Unlimited offers a solid, flat rate of cash back, you can stack it with personal Chase cards with a high rate in bonus categories to maximize your rewards potential.

Plus, some Chase cards, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, offer a higher point value when you redeem for travel in the Ultimate Rewards portal, meaning you can take rewards earned with the Ink Business Unlimited and stretch them further by transferring.

Ink Business Cash: Best rewards for in-person work

On the flip side, the bonus categories on the Ink Business Cash card can prove incredibly lucrative if your business spending aligns with them.

If you're setting up an office and spending on office supplies, phone and internet services, the Ink Business Cash's 5% cash back on these categories (up to $25,000 in purchases, then 1%), you would significantly boost your overall rewards. Be sure to charge this card while you're setting up since you need to spend $7,500 in three months to earn your $750 welcome bonus.

Even outside of starting an office, the card can bring a lot of value for those who work in-person full time, due to its 2% cash back (on up to $25,000 per year, then 1%) on gas and dining. If your business sends employees on client dinners or regularly needs to fill the tank for commutes and business travel, the bonus categories on the Ink Business Cash can bring in some solid rewards.

Ink Business Unlimited: Best for traveling business owners

The Ink Business Unlimited is great for business owners who don't have an office space and tend to spend on a variety of categories say groceries, gas, dining and travel. For business owners, and their employees, who travel often for business, spending on airfare and hotels, the Ink Business Unlimited will serve you well with its unlimited 1.5% cash back. It's also perfect for big spenders, since you need to reach $7,500 in three months to the welcome bonus of $750, or 75,000 Ultimate Rewards points.

Bottom line

Both the Ink Business Cash and Ink Business Unlimited from Chase can help small-business owners rake in cash back on their everyday spending. Deciding which offers more potential value for you comes down to taking a good look at your business' budget and spending habits.

Spread your purchases across multiple categories? The Ink Business Unlimited's flat rate is top-notch. Spend mostly on office supplies, phone and internet services? You can maximize the Ink Business Cash's bonus categories, plus still earn cash back on dining and gas.

You could also apply for both cards. By pairing the Ink Business Cash card's high rate on bonus categories with the Ink Business Unlimited card's flat rate on general purchases, you can optimize your rewards potential while sticking with small-business card options.
